I'd like to share my experience of SEM BCS here, hope it will help you in your financial consolidation project.

1. Items total amount will be automatically aggregated to the hierarchy nodes, it is very handy to use item's hierarchy when reporting;

2. Be careful when using Breakdown Catalogs, especially with Currency Translation. Some items with fields mandatory might cause difference during translation, and system will show you an error message of it;

3. Cross Char. in Single Selection can be used for inter-unit elimination, you can set up it as Conso. Unit = Partner Unit;

4. Layout designer provides flexibilities to create your own configuration interface;

5. Be sure of the posting levels of documents created by the Functions, as you have to arrange the tasks in sequence in the monitor.

Can only remember the above, maybe I will add some more later.
